National Honor Society's Inspiring Trip to Washington, DC

The National Honor Society embarked on its first-ever field trip to Washington, DC, attending the annual LEAD conference for young student leaders. We had the opportunity to listen to inspiring speakers who shared their hardships, failures, and successes, along with valuable tips on resilience. We connected with students from around the world, including Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, all U.S. states, and even Hawaii! With about 2,000 students present and 50 speakers offering diverse leadership and success workshops, the experience was truly enriching.

Youth Leadership Summit:

Earlier this school year a few of our students, myself included, were given the amazing opportunity to take part in the East End Youth Leadership Summit at Suffolk County Community College in Riverhead. This conference is hosted every year and includes schools from across the two forks. It is an opportunity to learn about the issues that up-and-coming leaders will face and how to present them to their own communities, but it was also a social event and an opportunity to meet some youth leaders from neighboring towns.

Greenport Students Join Nationwide Protest

On January 30, 2026, students from Greenport School participated in a nationwide protest. They joined peers across the country to demonstrate against deaths occurring during encounters with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, calling for increased accountability and transparency. 

CAST Culinary Program

The North Fork CAST Culinary Program is a 12-week program for high school students that deals with workforce development. The program partners with numerous restaurants, hotels, and hospitality facilities, with their chefs as instructors. 

Veterans Day

November 11, Veterans Day, is celebrated nationwide. For all Veterans of the United States armed forces, this day, Veterans of World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam War, Iraq and Afghanistan wars, generally any member, or former member of the armed forces. Because of Veterans Day, on Monday, November 10th, Greenport Schools held a Veterans Day Breakfast for them. This was organized by our school’s social worker, Jillian Johnstone. 

Winter Sports

Introduction: 

After an exciting end to the fall season, where there were several playoff appearances, the porters are gearing up for an exciting winter season. Hosted by Southold High School, the Greenport athletes can participate in winter track. Winter track is coached by Coach Mcardle and Coach Carrado. Mattituck allows students to join the Mattituck wrestling team coached by Ryan Grebe. At All Star, the bowling alley in Riverhead, students can participate in the bowling team coached by Father Gill. Now at home, we host the Girls' basketball team, combined with Southold, the Boys' basketball team, sideline cheer, and the weight room. Hope to see all our students being active and staying “warm”.

On Friday, November 21, Chef Harley hosted the second annual Thanksgiving feast for all his students and teachers. For the two years that Mr Harley has worked here as the Family and Consumer Science teacher, he has fostered a new but classic tradition of having his students cook a Thanksgiving meal to give out right before break. This is certainly a tradition that all look forward to.

In Greenport, a timeless craft is making waves—a skill not typically linked with high school, unless we're talking about Home Ec. Enter the Crochet Club! This newly formed club is reviving the art of crochet while simultaneously building a vibrant community.

The next club to join our school's ever-expanding roster of extracurricular activities is the brand new Greenport Model UN. The new club, overseen by both the new Social Studies and Economics teacher, Mr. Finnerty, and front office administrator, Mrs. K, presents itself as more than just a roleplay of your favorite country, but as an opportunity for passionate students to discuss and debate the issues facing the world we’re inheriting.

Greenport Porters Fall Sports Season Kicks Off

As summer draws to a close, the Greenport Porters are gearing up for an exciting fall sports season. With the first whistle blowing for football, the momentum quickly builds as girls' and boys' soccer, volleyball, field hockey, and golf teams begin their practices. The significance of sports in Greenport cannot be overstated; last year, both the football and soccer teams made it to the playoffs, setting a high bar for this season.

PTO Back-to-School Barbecue

On Friday, September 5, Greenport High School revived a cherished tradition with its PTO back-to-school barbecue. The lively event featured performances by the Greenport a cappella group, while culinary delights were prepared by Jimmy Smiley and Justin Moore, including hot dogs, hamburgers, corn-on-the-cob, assorted salads, watermelon, a variety of chips, and delectable desserts. The atmosphere buzzed with energy as students of all ages enjoyed time on the playground, a visit from the PTO Barbecue Porter Pirate, and camaraderie with friends. Teacher, students, staff, administration, families, and community members all enjoyed a memorable afternoon together.

Remembrance of 9/11 Ceremony 9/11: A Day of Reflection

Today marks 24 years since the tragic terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. While none of our students were alive during this horrific event, its impact on our lives and our nation is still profound. This day remains etched in our collective memory as one filled with sorrow and resilience. On September 11, 2001, thousands of Americans lost their lives due to acts of terrorism both in the air and on the ground.
