On Friday, October 16, Greenport High School was packed with energy! Everyone showed up ready to compete, cheer, and show off their school spirit for Porter Day 2026. What started as just another Friday morning turned into one of those days that make you love to be a Porter— the kind you're still talking about days later.
The day started early with class meetings from 7:30 to 8:00 a.m., split up by grade so we could get hyped with our own class first. Freshmen packed into Mr. Correnti's room, sophomores took over the gym, juniors filled the cafeteria, and the seniors got the auditorium. It was such an experience to see your whole grade together, getting hyped up before the day's events. Then, at 8:10 a.m., everyone crammed into the auditorium for the official start. The vibe was insane— hundreds of students, face-painted and tatted up, ready to go.
The morning kicked off with entertaining and competitive events. The Lip Sync Battle came first. The theme: Movie Soundtracks. Watching people get up there and lip-sync their favorite movie songs was extraordinary — some performances were very skillful, and some were hilariously chaotic. Then came the Porter Trivia Bowl, where people tested their knowledge on anything and everything, followed up by Name That Tune. The morning wrapped up with the STEM Challenge, which was quite intense; teams had to build a paper chain to support the weight of dozens of marbles by thinking quickly on their feet. It was awesome to watch the competition.
The physical action started at 10:15 in the gym, when the athletic events kicked off. That's when things got wild— we had two-way volleyball and soccer going on, plus the Porter Football Challenge and the four-person Porter Relay race. Students were sprinting and pushing themselves to win for their grade. It wasn't all classic sports; however, there were also crazy games like Hula Hoop Leap Frog and the Hula Hut Throwdown that were pure chaos and fun. 3-on-3 basketball was intense, and then there was the cookie face race, which, despite sounding unusual, was hilarious to watch. Tug of war had whole classes coming together, struggling to win, and the scavenger hunt sent everyone running around the school looking for those extra points.
If you weren't into sports, there was still plenty to do to support your grade. The tech room had jigsaw puzzles with Mr. Davies, and Mrs. Onunu had the art room open for mural painting. These options were perfect if you wanted something more chill but still competitive, and it was a great way to contribute something creative to the day. Cornhole was set up around the school if you wanted to hang and play something casual. Overall, whether you were an athlete, an artist, or just wanted to chill with friends, there was something for you. That’s the best part—everyone could participate in their own way.
The day ended with the Captain's Wheel Presentation, where they announced the winning grade. When they called out the rankings, everyone went crazy cheering for their classmates; the experience was awesome. By the time everything was done, it was pretty clear that Porter Day 2026 truly delivered on the hype— a whole day of competition, laughs, and school spirit that got everyone involved. It's one of those days that reminds you why it's so cool to be Porter.
