On October 14th a member of the Greenport family was recognized as the recipient of a prestigious award. The Quill sat down with Brianna Rivas to find out all about the award, her inspirations, and how she plans to carry on setting a great example.
What is the award that you received?
I received the Thomas Cutinella Service award.
Who is this award named after?
This Award was named after Thomas Cutinella, a 16 year old football player. This foundation is committed to improve the awareness of football related injuries. His legacy is to keep learnership, kindness, and selflessness alive.
What is the criteria to win this award?
In order to receive this award, one has to show great leadership in their community.
Who nominated you for this award?
The staff at Greenport High school nominated me for this award.
How did you find out you won?
I found out I won this award when Mr. Toussaint called me up to his office. He told me that the community voted for me.
Describe how you felt during the ceremony?
I felt very honored during the ceremony because I really wasn’t expecting to win an award that’s presented by a radio station.
How do you hope to carry on these characteristics?
I hope to set a good example for my community and younger students at Greenport.
Who is an inspirational person to you?
An inspirational person to me would have to be Mrs. Agosta. She always gave a good example for her students and helped everyone’s day become so much better.
