Porters Varsity Football is Back!

The long-awaited return of varsity football in Greenport has finally come. After 2 years of being unable to field a varsity team, the Porters just hosted their home opener against John Glenn High School on September 10th. The Porters played hard after a John Glenn touchdown minutes into the game, but struggled against the much larger team. Greenport was down 34-8 after the second quarter, but locked down defensively in the second half. Cornerback Namiah Santacroche and Linebacker Markus Krushevski made multiple pivotal tackles to keep the opponents from growing a larger lead. The game concluded with a 34-8 score.

Why So Much Hate: The New Wave of New York Rap

In an era when a rapper can go from an unknown teenager to an internet celebrity almost overnight, it is difficult to separate the music from the phenomenon surrounding it. Judah Weston is a perfect example; the young New York rapper first built an audience by relentlessly posting snippets and freestyles online (Funnily enough, I personally remember when he had 300 followers and was rapping in his closet). Eventually, Judah turned TikTok's attention into a record deal with GoodTalk— a record label run by music executive Jonny Shipes. His rise was accelerated by the viral success of “Ra Ta Dia” and “Thug”, these two undeniably catchy tracks bringing a different sound that introduced a large audience to his unique musical style. This origin, however, introduces a key challenge for Judah as his career in music kicks off.
