Hello dear readers, and welcome to the website of our school's newspaper, The Quill. This year holds tons of exciting new things for our school newspaper. The Quill has been the voice of Greenport students for generations and is a place of creative freedom that allows students to express their thoughts and opinions. As the Co-Editor-in-Chief, I am thrilled to help publish, edit, and write articles that are pitched to The Quill. Anything that you put your mind to is possible. Let that flourish with the help of the Quill.

The Quill is not just a club or the school newspaper; it is a family. As the Greenport Quill Chief Editor and President, I ensure that all students in the program have their voices heard. The students in this club have opportunities to write and share their perspectives on various topics and events, expressing their thoughts and feelings. We also have sections focusing on sports or schoolwide events, which could bring recognition to small new programs and get more students involved. The Greenport Quill brings the school together.

The next club to join our school's ever-expanding roster of extracurricular activities is the brand new Greenport Model UN. The new club, overseen by both the new Social Studies and Economics teacher, Mr. Finnerty, and front office administrator, Mrs. K, presents itself as more than just a roleplay of your favorite country, but as an opportunity for passionate students to discuss and debate the issues facing the world we’re inheriting.

Greenport Porters Fall Sports Season Kicks Off

As summer draws to a close, the Greenport Porters are gearing up for an exciting fall sports season. With the first whistle blowing for football, the momentum quickly builds as girls' and boys' soccer, volleyball, field hockey, and golf teams begin their practices. The significance of sports in Greenport cannot be overstated; last year, both the football and soccer teams made it to the playoffs, setting a high bar for this season.

Greenport's New ENL Teacher Shares Her Journey!

Greenport High School is happy to welcome a new member to our educational community Ms. Samantha Volpi, our dedicated ENL teacher. When asked about her favorite part of GHS so far, Ms. Volpi doesn't hesitate that it is a close knit community. “Being from a big school and an even bigger town, it was easy to get lost.” She explains “Greenport is unique compared to other places on Long Island with its small size, but that is what gives it its charm. Here you are able to get to know everyone and make connections in a meaningful way.”

Locked Phones, Open Minds: The Case for Yondr in Schools

The time is here; millions of students across New York state are now back in school. Introductions are made, grades are laid, sports commence, and students adjust. This year, students are adjusting to life without phones. Since Governor Kathy Hochul declared on May 9, 2025, smartphones and other electronic devices that aren’t school-provided computers are officially banned in K-12 Schools.
