April 2021
This volleyball season unlike others, has had a huge shift from a regular season of practicing, competing, and team bonding. The switch from a regular volleyball season that usually takes place in the fall, to now occurred these past two months. All of our competitions and practices being condensed over only those two months was one of the first major changes that took place. Games were happening two to three times a week and not having a pre-season had myself and other girls on the team missing out on some of the preparation we usually had before our season would have started. I am grateful that we had a season to begin with, even with the 10 day pause that took place.
The start of the season was a change for us all, from the COVID-19 protocols to adjusting to new teammates. Last year was a very successful season for our Clippers Volleyball Team. This year however, our team was very young and our varsity team only had a couple experienced players come back. The team had to adjust to teaching younger girls along with enhancing our own skills at the same time. Missing out on a pre-season truly is a change that we had to adapt to. Not just skill wise but our team bonding started as a slow start unlike in previous years. By half way through the season we worked well together and contrary to other years, we had a good, aggressive, and hardworking team.
With all the changes and transitions from what a normal season would look like, all of us including the coaches had to adjust to a new way of playing. I am still very grateful that my teammates and coaches worked hard to give myself and the three other seniors an unforgettable last volleyball season. I can speak for the whole varsity team when I say that we were just lucky to be playing again after over a year of not stepping onto the court, and being simply lucky to pass a ball again. Since my first ever kill on the varsity court to now having had my last high school volleyball season, it goes by fast so take every chance you can to enjoy it because it goes by in a blink of an eye.
