Postseason Porters

Aly De La Noval

Class of 2025

Recently, a few of our Greenport athletics teams have made it to playoffs! The sports in question are Varsity Girls Field Hockey, Varsity Boys Soccer, and Glenn Heidtmann for Varsity Boys Golf, as of now the results of Glenn Heitmann match are unavailable at the moment.

When asked about making it to playoffs, Brian Toussaint, the athletic director of Greenport High School stated, “It's really exciting, I think this is the first time in a few years that we have boys soccer going up to play games upstate, so it's a great opportunity for all those guys.” One of the boys from the varsity soccer team, Ricky Campos said, “I'm proud of my team, I think that we can win it all. I genuinely believe that if we put our heads to it we could.” The team did exactly that.

On November 2, Greenport’s Varsity boys soccer team traveled upstate for the New York State Class D Regional Semifinals to take on Loudonville High School. The Porters won 4-3 and advanced to the regional final game that was held on November 5th at Diamond in the Pines, Commack. (5-2)

Along with the boys soccer team, the girls Varsity field hockey team had made it to the Class C Suffolk County Championship. Mr. Toussaint stated, “It's the second year in a row that we have field hockey making it to playoffs which is also a great accomplishment considering that last year was the first time in quite some time that they did make the playoffs.” One of the field hockey team’s senior captains, Ava Cocheo stated, “I'm really proud of my team that we made it this far and I think that we can win playoffs and make it even further than that.” Unfortunately, while playing against Pierson, the Porters had taken an upsetting loss of  5-0. The head coach, Alexis Reed, stated “I knew the Pierson game was going to be tough but we would play our best… we had nothing to lose and everything to gain.” The field hockey team had put up an amazing fight and hopefully they continue to keep their playoff streak going.
