Growing up I have always been involved in sports. I started playing tee-ball at the age of five and instantly fell in love with the game. A game that even at such a young age, I dreamed of playing in college. After I aged out of playing tee-ball, I continued to play softball for as long as I could in Little League. Once I was too old for little league, I started playing travel softball. There was always another level for me to strive for.
Playing a travel sport was very demanding and oftentimes I had to miss things that most teenage girls would have hated to miss; I was sometimes unable to attend events like homecoming, school trips, and other school related events. I was a three sport athlete in high school, so sometimes this meant missing games for other sports teams I played on. In those moments, I hated having to miss those things, but eventually it all paid off. My senior year of high school I was offered a scholarship to play Division II softball and to my surprise, was offered a field hockey scholarship as well. Down the road I ended up transferring in my junior year and no longer played field hockey, but played softball all four years.
Softball has always been a constant in my life. However, all good things have to come to an end at some point. Once I graduated college, I looked to stay active and my dad, who is big into triathlons, got me to compete in my first triathlon. While training, I found a love for running. Running was something I always dreaded while playing high school sports, but eventually it became something I truly enjoyed… until I injured my knee. I have had two knee surgeries and am scheduled to get another one this august. I have not been able to run or compete in any races since 2019. I’m hoping that this summer is my last surgery and will lead me to recovery, but I will take it one step at a time!
I am determined to be able to run again. In the meantime, I have stayed involved in sports this year by coaching three sports: JV Field Hockey, JV Basketball, and Varsity Softball. I’m so glad that I’m still involved in sports in some capacity.
