The holidays are a hectic time for our Greenport A Cappella group, as the group typically participates in 4-5 events in the month of December alone! On the early morning of Tuesday, December 16, the group visited the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Greenport, where the annual December Rotary Club meeting was being held. Year after year, the A Cappella group joins the Rotary Club for breakfast, where the group performs their selected holiday songs.
However, this year was a bit different, as the group expanded from 13 members to 24 members, resulting in a girls' and boys' section. Administrative faculty, like high school principal Mr. Kalish and Superintendent Ms. Boyle, attended the event to watch the group performance of “Text Me Merry Christmas,” the girls’ group performance of “Merry Christmas Darling,” and the boys’ group performance of “This Christmas.”
The evening of December 17th was the night of the High School Concert, where the group opened the event with the singing of the Star-Spangled Banner, followed by holiday songs. With the new addition of the Boys’ A Cappella section, both groups took turns sitting down on stage whilst the other group sang.
During school on December 19th, the A Cappella group annually visits stores in Greenport town while singing a medley of caroling songs; however, due to poor weather, this annual event was cancelled. Instead, the group opted to visit the elementary school’s classrooms and perform the carols for students Pre-K through 5th grade.
Later that day, the group visited the Greenport Holiday Stroll in Greenport town to perform simple holiday carols like Joy to the World, Silent Night, O’ Holy Night, and others in numerous restaurants and shops. Although there was poor weather, the group continued to spread holiday cheer by singing indoors to customers.
The holiday season is a very busy time for the A Cappella group; however, it is also the most cheerful and important time of the year. Although the busiest time is over, the group will continue to perform at the spring concert and the Music in Our Schools concert until the next holiday season rolls around.
