Introduction
On May 17, 2009, a new game called “Minecraft” made by Mojang was released, and it was a hit game almost immediately. It was a game where people of any age could express themselves through their builds and play with their friends. But throughout the years, the game slowly evolved into what it is today, a game where you can build anything you want, survive chaotic nights, make new worlds with friends, and join servers to play with other people from around the world.
Gameplay
The gameplay is pretty simple, but also time-consuming. The gameplay consists of gathering materials, building a base, slaying mobs, mining for materials, crafting weapons/necessities, and killing a dragon. This is where the time consumption part comes in. You would first need to gather enough materials to let you last a while without having to restock, and also have enough to let you build a good base that will protect you from the mobs that come at night. You would also need to take into account the weapons and the necessary armor upgrades you would need to slay those mobs more efficiently. Minecraft has three modes you can set your world in. They are hardcore, creative, and survival. Here’s how the modes affect your world: Hardcore- it's survival, but instead of having infinite lives, you only get one.
Creative- You don’t take damage in this mode, and you can obtain everything in the game just from your inventory.
Survival- You can respawn an infinite number of times at the cost of losing everything in your inventory at the time of death. You can still get it back, since it drops on the floor, but you would need to find it first, which could be either easy or difficult depending on the obstacles that would stand in your way.
What Happened To The Game?
Notch, the creator of Minecraft, ultimately sold the game to Microsoft for 2.5 billion USD due to not wanting to deal with the public spotlight and the immense pressure that came with managing the success of the game. Other than that, the game has earned multiple spin-offs that are named Minecraft Earth, Minecraft Story Mode, Minecraft Dungeons, and Minecraft Legends. Unfortunately, Minecraft Earth and Minecraft Story Mode both have met tragic outcomes.
Minecraft Earth- it was a free-to-play Minecraft mobile game that brought the Minecraft universe to life with your camera. It allowed you to build numerous things in your own home and outside. Unfortunately, the game got shut down in June 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Minecraft Story Mode- This game is pretty much what the title says except it’s an entirely new game with different mechanics and brand new characters. Some moments allowed you to move around and inspect things. The game sadly got removed from the App Store, Steam, etc. Due to the financial collapse and shutdown of Telltale Games (Creators of Minecraft Story Mode).
Was Minecraft Worth Buying?
Minecraft is a perfect game for children ages 7 and up. It’s also a perfect game if you would want to play with yourself or with others. It inspires creativity and gives a great experience. It doesn’t take much of your brain power to understand how everything works, once you do, the experience you get from the game will be so much better. I honestly believe that my money was well spent and gave me the very experience that I was looking for.
