This month, the Quill shines a light on Mrs. Erika Cabral, a beloved figure at Greenport High School (GHS), known for her infectious smile and unwavering passion for music. Teaching K-12th grade, Mrs. Cabral has made a significant impact on the school community, especially through her remarkable work in theater and music.

If you've attended any of the school’s plays, musicals, or concerts, you're likely familiar with the dedication she pours into each performance. “I always strive to ensure that every student has a fun and enriching experience,” Mrs. Cabral shared. Her commitment to fostering creativity and collaboration is evident in every project she undertakes.

Reflecting on her own time at GHS, Mrs. Cabral recalls many fond memories, particularly the joy of performing on stage and participating in various sports. An avid fan of group activities, she thrived in GHS’s vibrant extracurricular scene, excelling in soccer, softball, and cheerleading. Her love for musicals began during her high school years, where she took part in school plays, ultimately leading her to become the director of the annual school musicals.

Mrs. Cabral's enthusiasm for the outdoors was also nurtured during her student days, as she participated in the outing club, enjoying planned excursions with peers. Additionally, her involvement in the student council allowed her to contribute to planning dances and other school events, showcasing her leadership and organizational skills.

After graduating from GHS in 1997, Mrs. Cabral pursued a degree in industry and performance. Following her studies, she explored her passion for music in New York City, engaging in songwriting and recording. Her journey eventually led her to earn a master’s degree in education, setting the stage for her successful career as a music teacher and director.

Since joining the GHS faculty in 2006, Mrs. Cabral has continued to inspire students with her creativity and dedication. Her journey from student to educator exemplifies the spirit of community and passion that defines Greenport High School.

As she continues to shape the next generation of musicians and performers, Mrs. Cabral remains a cherished member of the GHS family, embodying the values of hard work, creativity,  and collaboration.
