Pumpkin Fun!
Thank you so much to Shelby Nichols, Shaylah Van Rhyn, Kim Khalamov, and Christina Barrett for volunteering to help our class with carving pumpkins this week! The students were delighted to help with the pumpkin carving process and touch the slimy pumpkin guts as well as design the pumpkin faces.
Before the pumpkins were carved, we also had a pumpkin painting station set up. These pumpkins have never been more beautiful!
Regulating Tools
We are continuing to learn about feelings and different regulating tools here in Early Intervention Pre-K. This week we learned how to use a glitter jar. We put on some relaxing music, flipped a three-minute sand timer, and practiced quietly shaking glitter jars and watching the glitter fall as we worked on deep breathing.
Halloween Vocabulary
This week we learned some big new Halloween words this week including Frankenstein, skeleton, and costume. We clapped these words out and also worked on adding a snake s-sound to the word "skeleton." On Monday our four-year-olds had a Halloween scavenger hunt around the building. Scavenger hunts are a fun way to practice and reinforce vocabulary words.
What Time is it Mr. Pumpkin?
In the gym we played What Time is it Mr. Pumpkin, a fun spin-off of the classic game, What Time is it Mr. Wolf? This fun game works on so many skills from counting, to speech and language skills, to controlling your body and impulsivity as you start and stop. It was super fun and there was always oodles of excited screams when we hit "lunch time!"
A Little Pumpkin Song
We sang this little pumpkin song all week here in EIP. This song is always such a hit with the little ones. I love it because the familiar repetition encourages children to participate, and it works on gross motor development while also reinforcing speech and language skills. I have attached the song below incase you want to enjoy it at home as well.
Thanks for the Play Dough!
Thanks to Kim Khalamov for making us a fresh batch of play dough this week, it was so exciting to have a batch that was sparkling and smelled so good.
Halloween!
Halloween is quickly approaching! On Halloween day, your children are welcome to wear their costumes to school. Please consider leaving their costume accessories at home; I have seen costume accessories get lost and broken over the years and this is always so upsetting if they then don't have their items to take trick-or-treating at night. A few notes about Halloween:
- There will be a costume parade happening at 9:00 am in the school gym. All parents and families are welcome to attend. If your child is in the afternoon class, you are welcome to bring them for the parade and then take them back home when it is over.
- Please send a little party snack with your child for this day. We are going to watch a Halloween movie and the students can eat the treats that they brought. I find preschool aged children to be unpredictable in what they will eat, so to simplify the process, I am asking parents to only send party snacks for their own child. You know your child best and you know what will be an exciting treat for them. Fun ideas include a donut, a small bag of chips, a juice box, and a piece of Halloween candy.
Coming Up!
- October 31st - Robina Baker Halloween Parade, 9:00 am

Afternoon students are welcome to attend the parade with their parents if they would like!
- October 31st - Halloween Party
Children are welcome to wear their costumes to school on this day.
Please consider leaving your child's costume accessories at home as these items often get lost or broken!
Please send your child with their own little party snack as we will be watching a Halloween movie as a fun little treat. Fun snack ideas include: a small bag of chips, a juice box, one or two pieces of Halloween candy.

These pictures are scheduled for the morning. If your child is in the afternoon class and you would like them to have a retake photo, please bring them to the school around 9:00 am so they can have their picture taken.
