Intergalactic Fun!

We had an exciting week of space in pre-k. The students were engaged in a variety of sensory painting activities to create the sun, the moon, and some funky planets. Our classroom looks out of this world!

Moon-Tastic

We mixed flour and white paint to make a very thick moon paint. The students loved gobbing it on their paper, and the end result looks super cool!

Swirling Planets

We used shave cream and paint to create these cool planets. This process was so messy we did not get to snap as many pictures as usual, but we did manage to capture some of the fun!

Mr. Sun

After listening to the song Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun the students enjoyed using plastic wrap to smear orange and yellow paint on their suns. This activity was also the perfect opportunity to practice our 'S' sound.

Emergency Evacuation Practice

On Thursday, pre-k had an emergency evacuation practice. This is the first practice we have had since we learned about emergency evacuations in the fall. I was so proud of how much the students remembered and how well they did with the practice. It was a little chilly heading out in the cold without our coats on, but this is our reality if we were ever to have a real emergency.

Feed the Aliens!

We began teaching scissors skills this week. Holding your scissors the correct way is an important habit to develop at the beginning of your cutting career!

We use this little poem to help our students remember where their fingers go:

Fingers in the bottom,

thumb on top

open the mouth

and go chop, chop, chop

These are the scissor grasps that we are working towards. Either grasp is acceptable.

  • If your child can only fit one finger in the bottom hole, having their index finger resting outside the loop as the helper finger is recommended.

  • If your child can fit two fingers in the bottom hole this grasp is acceptable too.

We practiced our snipping skills by cutting up strips of paper to "feed" our hungry aliens.

Coming Up!
