Another Colourful Week!

We had fun this week as we continued to learn about different colours.

Colour Sorting

On Tuesday, we read one of our favourite stories, The Colour Monster. In this cute book, the colour monster learns to identify and sort his emotions. We had a colour monster sorting center available throughout the week so the students could experience helping the colour monster sort his feelings on their own!

Who Eats Orange?

On Wednesday, we learned about different coloured foods by reading the book, Who Eats Orange?  After this, we tried some orange foods here in our classroom. We explored both carrots and cantaloupe and I showed the students different ways they could be brave with these new foods!

First we allowed the food to sit on our napkin, for some of our students, this was a big step! Then we looked at the food, smelled it, and if we were feeling brave, gave it a little touch. After that, we turned it into a fish and swam the food up our arms, made the food into mustaches, and the really brave ones kissed the food, licked in, and even took a bite! Some students were surprised that they liked the cantaloupe and ate their entire piece!

If your child struggles to try new foods at home, I encourage giving this playful approach a try. And if all your child can tolerate is having the food in their space, that's okay! It is a great first step that is worth rewarding. I kept telling the students how brave they were every step of the way.

Green

On Thursday we learned about green. We read a book called Green and talked about different items we know that are green. We then took turns using marbles to paint green four leaf clovers.

Rainbow Science

On Friday our three-year-olds used Skittles to do a rainbow science experiment. It was so exciting to watch the rainbows grow as the colours moved across the plate. Our four-year-olds will by trying this experiment a go on Monday!

Colour Sorting

In the gym we set up an obstacle course and challenged the students to carry a beanbag with them through the obstacle course and then to sort their bean bag into the correct bin at the end.

SPLASH - That Was Fun!

Our three-year-olds suited up with rubber boots and splash pants so they could head outside and explore the puddles on Friday. It was so fun to wade through the water.

Please make sure you are sending your child with rubber boots and splash or snow pants next week as the puddles will likely still be there calling our names! Also please send a change of clothes in case your child gets wet. This is very important for our daycare families as your children are not heading home after our play outside and they will need clothes to change into if they are wet.

A Colour Song

We have been singing this simple little song for the past two weeks. I have been using a simple visual to help the children know what the words are in the song. I was honestly surprised by how much they liked this song. They requested to sing it again and again and we even performed it for Mr. Scott when he arrived for music. I will attach the song and my little visual below in case you want to try singing it at home as well.

Our Family Heritages

This past week we learned a bit about England and Germany. We listened to their national anthems, learned about their official languages, and then hung their flags up on our countries bulletin board. Next week we will be discovering two new countries! If you have not yet filled out the family heritage questionnaire form, you are welcome to do so by clicking here
