Colour Week!

This past week we started our colours theme.

Monday: Red!

On Monday we spent some time looking at the colour red. We read the most interesting book called Red, which is about a blue crayon that has a red label on it. After that, we used red crayons to print our name and painted pictures by putting our papers in a tube with paint and marbles, then rolling the tube back and forth.

Tuesday: Yellow!

On Tuesday, we read the book, A Colour of His Own, and talked about the colour yellow. We then grabbed our trusty magnifying glasses and went on a yellow hunt around the the classroom and down the hallway! The students really got into this activity and it was exciting to see all the yellow things they found.

Wednesday: Colour Songs

On Wednesday we spent some time learning different colour songs. Singing with your children is a lovely way to develop speech and language skills. If you sing the same song over and over again, children start to learn the words and gain the confidence to participate! I will include the words to one of the songs we did below incase you want to sing it at home too.

The Colour Song

(Tune: If You're Happy and You Know It)

If your clothes have any red, any red,

If your clothes have any red, any red,

If your clothes have any red, put your finger on your head,

If your clothes have any red, any red.

Additional Versus:

Blue- finger on your shoe

Yellow- smile like a happy fellow

Brown- turn your smile into a frown

Black- tap your neighbor on the back

White- hug yourself with all your might

Thursday: Blue

On Thursday we spent some time learning about the colour blue. This was a fun colour to learn about, because we had blue show and tell. Thank you to all of our EIP families for helping their children to participate by sending in a blue item for them to show to their classmates. I was impressed with how well both classes were able to sit and listen to one another during this special time.

Our Family Heritages

This past week we learned a bit about Denmark and Belgium. We listened to their national anthems, learned about their official languages, and then hung their flags up on our countries bulletin board. Next week we will be discovering two new countries! If you have not yet filled out the family heritage questionnaire form, you are welcome to do so by clicking here

Colours in the Gym!

The students had fun strengthening their gross motor skills while using scooters to sort balls into their correct colour bin. This activity not only reinforced colour names, but it also introduced the mathematical concept of sorting and matching items that are the same together.

Parent-Teacher Check In/ Student Led Conferences

Our school is running student led conferences on Wednesday, March 13th from 3:30 - 6:45 pm. However, being that we do not have our next set of IPP (Individualized Program Plan) meetings scheduled until the end of May, I thought this evening could be the perfect time to have a little check in. You are welcome to sign up for a timeslot to take a few minutes to sit down with me and have an informal chat about how your child is doing at school and progressing towards their IPP goals. Participating in these meetings is completely optional and simply gives us a chance to touch base. If you would like to sign up for a timeslot, please click here.

I will also have a craft available if you would rather bring your child with you and enjoy a fun little activity together, more similar to a student-led conference format.

Looking for Play Dough Makers!

A HUGE thank you goes out to all the parents who have been making play dough for us. Selena White sent in two batches this past week, and the bright colours were a huge hit!

There are a few openings left in the play dough making schedule, if you would like to make a batch of play dough for the class, you can sign up by clicking here.
