Another Week of Fun!

We had another great week here in PK. Most of our students seem to be getting comfortable with the routine of going to school. This week we had several things going on. I followed the children in their passions and it was a week of Pete the Cat, McDonald's and Transportation!

McDonald's is Open!

We noticed lots of McDonald's play happening in our classroom over the past few weeks. So we decided to open our own little PK McDonald's restaurant. Thank you so much to Mrs. Pelkey and the Spruce Grove Walmart McDonald's for their generous donation of burger boxes, fry containers, drink cups, and so much more to make our McDonald's restaurant even more special! This imaginative play was full of learning opportunities and gave us plenty of chances to work on our speech and language skills, counting, and the very important social skills of sharing, taking turns, and waiting!

I can't wait to share the pictures of this fun time.... stay tuned! I will post them when we have the green light!

Pete's Pizzas!

To finish up our unit on Pete the Cat we made some delicious pizzas this week! These pizzas had everything on them that Pete steps in during his big walk: mud (Sunbutter), strawberries, blueberries, and water (Coconut Whip).

Many of our students tried their pizzas, some just tried select toppings, and some tried it all. The sensory experience of playing with food and making different snacks is a good first step for those picky eaters. I am excited to have more food exploration activities as the year progresses!

Cars and Trucks and Things That Go!

Our trains, monster trucks, and cars have been having a non-stop work out since school started. To fuel this interest we added a car craft this week as well as a sand and rocks construction site, a car wash, and painting with cars. The students were busy loading, hauling, racing, and creating all week!

Car Fingerplay

The students enjoyed this very simple car fingerplay last week. Some of the kids were telling me they taught it to their moms and dads at home. Here are the words and actions incase you want to do it together!

Car, car, may I have a ride? (one hand has a fist - the car, the other hand has the pointer finger sticking up - the person. The person talks first)

Yes sir, yes sire, step right inside. (now the car talks)

Get in the car. (put your person into the car)

Turn on the gas. (move your hands forward)

Chug away, chug away, (move hands forward and backward)

But not too fast! (hold hand up like "stop")

Car Snipping!

On Monday our four year olds had an introduction to cutting. After learning the proper cutting technique they tried snipping apart cars to glue onto a car hauler!

Terry Fox Run

On Thursday we had a short, age appropriate discussion about Terry Fox and his journey to try and run across Canada to raise money for people who are sick. We then had our own little Terry Fox run around the school yard before heading to the park.

PK Songs

I have had several parents inquire about the different songs we do here in PK. I will share some of them with you incase your child is trying to sing them at home as well! These are our current hello and goodbye songs:
