October 4-7

Another Busy Week

We had another busy week of playing and learning here in PK! The students are still settling into the routines and having fun checking out the different toys we have to offer in our classrooms. Having two classrooms this year means twice as many play spaces! When it's play time, the students are allowed to pick between the play spaces and we have tried to set up different play invitations in each room.

There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Turkey!

We enjoyed this silly rhyming book throughout week. The students were all giggles when we read about some of the funny things the old lady swallowed in the book.

Reading familiar books again and again helps develop important early literacy and language skills as children often join in the reading once they are familiar with the pattern of the book. Listening to sounds in words and playing with words that rhyme is another important pre-reading skill that we work on in pre-k!

I have included an online version of the book below incase you want to enjoy it at home as well!

Turkey Hands

Some of our students enjoyed making Thanksgiving turkeys with their hands this week. I think getting their hands painted was their favourite part!

Silly Songs!

We had fun with these silly songs this week. If you are looking for children's songs to add to your at home playlist, I strongly recommend anything by the Laurie Berkner Band, they are a PK favourite!

Our Regular Songs

I have had some parents asking if I could share some of the regular songs we do here in PK. I will attach our good morning and good bye song below so you can enjoy them at home if you want. These catchy tunes are often stuck in my head, so I imagine you might hear your children singing them at home as well!

Coming Up!

  • October 11 & 12: No School (Thanksgiving Day and PD Day)

  • October 27 & 28: Picture Day

Wishing You a Very Happy Thanksgiving

Our PK team would love to wish you a very happy Thanksgiving. I know we continue to withstand these trying pandemic times, but I hope you all get some time to relax and have fun with your family. We truly have so much to be thankful for!
