It was a fun week of Christmas activities here in EIP. The energy level continued to rise in the classroom as we got closer to the end of the week. To try and keep everyone as regulated as possible, we stuck to our routine as much as we could, while adding in special little activities here and there.

We enjoyed watching the Grinch and eating our special movie snacks on Thursday. This is the simplest activity, yet so loved by the students since we don't normally watch movies at school.

On Thursday we learned some new Christmas words, including wreath and ornament. We first practiced saying and clapping out these words, then we went hunting around the school to see what we could find!

The students enjoyed doing this finger play last week, I have included the words and actions below incase you want to do it at home as well. Songs, finger plays, and poems are such a fun and simple way to expand children's vocabulary and work on speech and language skills at home.

Stir a bowl of gingerbread, smooth and spicy brown,
(pretend to stir)
Roll it with the rolling pin up and down.
(making rolling motions),
Take a cookie cutter and make some little men,
(cut cookies with imaginary cutter),
Put them in the oven ’til half past ten.
(pretend to put cookie tray into oven, tap wrist/watch).

We had fun making Christmas cookies this past week. However, this time, they were craft cookies and not for eating! This super simple craft involved cardboard cookies, puffy paint made from equal parts shave cream and glue, and then anything we could find to be cookie toppings!

Top Secret Project
Top Secret Project
We have been busy these past few weeks making top secret gifts for our parents! This project was the perfect opportunity to start teaching students about "good secrets." A good secret, is a secret that is fun to keep, such as a special gift for someone. Helping children understand what kind of secrets they should keep and what kind of secrets they should tell is an important life skill. I only briefly touched on this concept by calling our special gift a "good secret." As your children get older, you might want to have chats with them regarding what kind of secrets are good, and what kind of secrets are important to tell.

Farewell to Miss Joey!
Farewell to Miss Joey!
We were sad to say goodbye to Miss Joey this past week as she finished her time at Robina Baker School. Miss Joey is moving on to a new school division that is closer to her house and will cut down the amount of time she spends each day commuting to and from work. We will miss you Miss Joey! Best of luck in your new role.
