We've had a wonderful start to our school year. We began first with a staggered start, and now this week we rolled into our regular scheduling. I'm so proud of how brave everyone has been separating from their parents and giving school a try! We have been working hard at learning the routines of school.
Unfortunately, I cannot begin posting pictures on the weekly updates until all of the verification forms are complete. Please log in to your PowerSchool account and fill out your child's verification form.
We've had a fun couple of weeks with a Pete the Cat theme. Pete the cat is one of my favourite cats, and pretty much all Pete the Cat books are worth their weight in gold. This week we read "Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes," "Pete the Kitty's First Day of Preschool," and "Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons."
We had different crafts and art experiences available to the students during playtime these past two weeks. I love art and crafts because they allow children to have a sensory experience while strengthening those very important fine motor skills that they will need later on when they learn to print.
This past week we enjoyed a little finger play called "Open Them, Shut Them." Finger plays are a fantastic way to practice speech and language skills while also strengthening that hand-eye coordination. I'll put the words below incase you want to do it at home as well. Ask your child to teach you the actions!
Open them, shut them, open them, shut them, give a little clap. (open and shut your hands, then clap)
Open them, shut then, open them, shut them, lay them in your lap. (open and shut your hands, then lay them in your lap)
Roll them, roll them, roll them, roll them just like this. (roll your hands)
Shake them, shake them, shake them, make a little fist. (shake your hands, make a fist)
Creep them, creep them, creep them, creep them right up to your chin. (walk your fingers up your arm to your chin)
Open your mouth, but don't let them in! (open your mouth, and then shake your hands and head as to say "no fingers in your mouth")
Thank you to all of the parents and guardians that have already signed up to make play dough for our class. We play with a lot of play dough in this room and it's always nice to have a fresh new batch.
