Another Week of Space Fun

We continued with our space theme this past week, and the excitement level in the room was still high!

The students loved learning about the different planets and were also eager to read about the volcanoes on Mars. In fact, the morning class was so fascinated by these volcanoes that we made a plan of everything we need (complete with a shopping list for Mrs. Porter) so we can make our own volcanoes next week!

Alien Babies... An Introduction to Cutting!

To follow our space theme, some cute little alien babies visited our classroom. These babies liked to eat paper and were very hungry!

We worked hard to first rip pieces of paper small enough for the babies so they wouldn't choke, then we took turns trying scissors to cut small little pieces of food for the babies.

This playful little activity strengthened fine motor skills and introduced students to the correct way to hold scissors and some basic cutting skills. When we practice cutting we like to use this poem:

Fingers in the bottom,

thumb on top,

open the mouth,

and go chop, chop, chop!

Planet Painting

Some of our students chose to get messy this week and create a planet. This messy art project involves shave cream and paint. Everyone was excited about the end result, they look so cool!

Student-Led Conferences!

We are excited to be welcoming families into our school on Wednesday, March 16th for student-led conferences! Pre-kindergarten will be participating in this fun evening too!

Feel free to drop in between 3:30 and 6:45 pm with your child to check out our classrooms and make a little craft together. Please plan to stay for approximately 15 minutes so we have enough room and time for all of our families to rotate through.

This is not a parent-teacher interview. If you would like to speak one on one with me about your child’s progress, please let me know and we can make an appointment to connect.
