Some may wonder why no traditional Halloween costumes this year??? There are many reasons for this and safety is always our number one priority. Halloween at school is traditionally a very busy, exciting day with a costume parade, a party, and numerous fun classroom activities. Due to COVID, we are unable to do many of these things. With the age of our students, costumes bring about many challenges: excitement to touch, extra gear, help with costume parts that fall off, help with costumes that need to be taken off for a washroom break or because the student overheats. Our classrooms have limited space to store things and with our dedication to minimizing touch, we have decided that we will do something different this year. Along with the theme day, our students will enjoy Halloween activities that their classroom teachers have prepared. As well, there will be a pumpkin decorating/carving contest that each class will participate in as part of a MHCB (Mental Health Capacity Building) team project. We know that part of the fun of Halloween is seeing each other's costumes and we will be setting up a folder for parents to share pictures of their child in their costume. We will create a quick slideshow for our students to watch and enjoy and add these photos to our yearbook.
