Our Winter Walk Day was a huge success and we are so thrilled that we went out one day earlier than initially planned. The students really enjoyed the experience and we were pleased with how many of them persevered to have fun, despite the weather conditions. There are lots of photos from the day and you can find them HERE! A small sampling of those photos can be seen below.
Report cards for Grades 1-4 were available last week on PowerSchool. Today an email went out to the Grade 1-4 parents so that you could see the report card in a different format. We heard that there were some problems with PowerSchool that were out of our control and that the system will be shut down over the next couple of days for maintenance. If you were not able to check or see your child's report card, let us know next week when we are back from teacher's convention and we will be happy to assist you!
Kinder report cards are generated by the school and are a completely different format and those were sent out via email last week as an attachment.
I have heard some feedback that Grade 1 report cards look very different than Kindergarten report cards and that you don't get as much information. I thought I would try to help understand why that is. PowerSchool has limitations for how much we can say in the comment boxes on the report card and that is not something we have control over. So to try to work within the system and provide consistent information for each child, we create a template for our teachers to follow for report cards. The general comments allow a lot more flexibility, but in the subject comments we are quite limited to the number of characters that we can utilize. This is because PowerSchool puts the emphasis on individual assignments. You will find more detailed comments about your child's progress in the comments that are attached to each assignment. You should be able to look at those multiple times throughout each term. The report card is a very basic summary of those assignments and are not meant as the holding base for the rich detailed comments the teachers have regarding your child. PowerSchool report cards are utilized for Grades 1-12 in Black Gold. Our kindergarten report cards look and "feel" different because the comments are compiled twice per year, rather than shared regularly through assignments that are held in a database. I hope this helps explain the difference. If you every have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out and I am happy to explain why something is the way it is!
