NOVEMBER 1, 2020

Our students had so much fun dressing up and doing Halloween themed activities for our dress up day! I love this picture of our grade 1C class. They were having so much fun painting! If you would like to see more pictures from the day, please click on this link: Orange & Black Theme Day pictures.

We hosted our first virtual assembly today. It was just a short 20 minute assembly to try things out and make sure there weren't any technological issues. From all reports it went great. We hosted a school wide joke contest on Wednesday and Mr. Schnell and I voted on some of our favourites to share today. You can see that video below:

Our students participated in a pumpkin carving contest this past week. Our MHCB (Mental Health Capacity Building) team provided the pumpkins for this event - THANK YOU!!! The pumpkins all turned out so well and if you drive or walk by the school you will see many of them shining in the windows. Please help us choose a favourite by voting using the form below! I think they are all soooooo amazing that it will be hard to narrow it done to just one. Get your family involved in the voting too! Thank you in advance for participating with us!

PLEASE VOTE BELOW FOR YOUR FAVOURITE!

Thank you to those who have already shared their costume pictures. If you have not yet done so, please email Mrs. Kloschinsky a picture or drop it into this folder: RBES Halloween Costumes

A slideshow is being prepared to share with the students next week over the lunch hour! Everyone in the RBES community is encouraged to participate, including our Distance Education students. We would love to see your costumes and your smiling faces! Below is a little sneak peek . . .

I would like to give out a warm Raptor welcome to our two newest staff members at RBES! Both of these individuals have been a great addition to our team and I would like to introduce them to you.

Mr. Schneider

Mr. Schneider will be teaching the 1C class while Mrs. Nuttall is on a leave. He is excited to join our team and the first week has been a wonderful transition time for the class! Mr. Schneider immediately immersed himself in the grade one world and he even tackled some messy art right away. So very brave of him. 1C parents: you should have received introduction letters from Mr. Schneider a week ago. Please let us know if you have not received that information.

Ms. Flecha

Ms. Flecha will be joining us for the year as our RBES librarian. Mrs. Sacuta has taken a leave of absence for the year. Ms. Flecha has jumped in with both feet and all classes have already had the privilege of meeting her and hearing a story or two from her. She has lots of great ideas for some safe programming for our students and we look forward to the skills that she brings to our building.

Sign Up for Your Parent Teacher Meeting!

We will be holding our annual Parent Meetings on Tuesday, November 3 and Wednesday, November 4 from 3:30 to 7:00 pm. Your child’s teacher may also be available for additional time throughout the week - please touch base with them. Teachers will be available for video conference for your 15 minute time slot. Due to our safety protocols and restrictions, there will be no meetings held at the school.

To book your time, just go to the SignUp website & choose Robina Baker Parent-Teacher Meetings.

The meetings will be done via the Zoom platform. Here are some tips and important information:

  1. Your child's teacher will email you a link to your meeting on Monday, November 2.

  2. If your link times out at any point during the interview or there are any technical glitches, please just go back to the original link and re-enter the meeting.

  3. If you click on the meeting link too early, you will sit in the Zoom waiting room until the teacher lets you in. They will be moving from one parent meeting to the next and usually are not able to start meetings early.

  4. Please be on time. Teacher's schedules are pretty full and they need to respect each family's allotted time.

If you have never used Zoom before:

Join a meeting by clicking on a Zoom link provided by the meeting host => follow the prompts to download and run Zoom => enter the meeting ID if prompted => click to join the audio conference. When you're in the meeting, you may click on the Start Video button to start your video.

Our Virtual Book Fair is available from Nov. 2 - 9. Wednesday, Nov. 4 is our family night. If you purchase on that day between 6 - 8 pm, your shipping will be free! You can click here to shop: RBES VIRTUAL BOOK FAIR LINK or you can click on any of the book fair pictures in this update to take you to our Book Fair.

One of our MHCB (Mental Health Capacity Building) Coaches, Ms. DeFrancesco, has been working with all of our students on the skills in the Breathe Like A Bear program. This week our MHCB team generously donated supplies for each student to build a calming glitter jar! It was definitely one of the highlights of the week. You can see some pictures of many of our students by clicking on this link: GLITTER JAR PICTURES

Breathe Like a Bear is a beautifully illustrated collection of mindfulness exercises designed to teach kids techniques for managing their bodies, breath, and emotions. Best of all, these 30 simple, short breathing practices and movements can be performed anytime, anywhere: in the car to the grocery store, during heavy homework nights at home, or even at a child’s desk at school.

Based on Kira Willey’s Parents’ Choice GOLD Award-winning CD, Mindful Moments for Kids, this one-of-a-kind book is sure to help kids find calm, gain focus, and feel energized during the day, and encourage families to establish a fun and consistent mindfulness practice, whether at home or on the go.

Thank you so much to all who bought raffle tickets to support our school. The deadline to purchase is a few hours away. You still have one last chance to get in on the action. Click here to buy tickets. The draw will be made on Thursday, November 5. Good luck to everyone who purchased tickets!!

The Fundraising Committee meeting will follow the School Council meeting. We will pause for a short transition in between. We look forward to seeing many of you there!

Both ANNUAL GENERAL meetings will be virtual meetings using Zoom and anyone from our RBES school community is eligible and welcome to attend!

Join the 2020-2021 RBES Fundraising Committee: Our next meeting will follow the School Council Meeting on November 2, 2020. While we love new members, you do not need to be a member to join the meeting. Together we can achieve our fundraising goals.
