ASSEMBLY UPDATE:

RBES students continue to learn about the character trait of Respect. The students were treated to a Respect presentation from the students in 1B & 4C. It was a wonderful cross grade collaboration with the positive message of: "What if everybody did that?"

You can click here to see the remainder of the content of this past Friday's assembly. The students have been practicing how to be a productive and respectful audience member in our assemblies. This week we featured how important respect is for special events like the Remembrance Day ceremony and the Christmas Concert. We talked about why it is important to be especially respectful on special occasions and what that might look like and sound like. The students brainstormed a number of great ideas.

BOOK FAIR WINNERS!

Congratulations to our Book Fair Winners:

Annika (1A), Silas (4A), Euphrati (2B), Tristan (3D)

These students all won $25 worth of product and their classroom teachers also won $25 in books for the classroom.

Thank you very much to all the parents and extended family members who came out to support the book fair! I don't have a final tally yet, but I can tell you it was over $4,500 in sales, which allows us to receive a large donation to our library for future book purchases. Your support is much appreciated and all of our students benefit from having new and exciting titles added to our library collection! A special thank you goes out to Mrs. Sacuta for organizing the Book Fair and to our parent and staff volunteers who came out to help as well.

Reminder: COSTUME PARADE on October 31!

Hope to see many of you there on Thursday morning at 9:00 am. Remember to send your child to school in their costume and to keep the school costumes and makeup Pre-K friendly so that we don't scare our little ones.

We are pleased to be partnering with the Devon Lion's Club to offer our Kindergarten and Grade 1 students, a free vision screening test. The test provided by the Devon Lion's Club is designed to detect possible defects in their vision and recommend referral to a qualified eye care professional – optometrist or ophthalmologist – who can recommend further treatment, if necessary.

This testing is available for any child aged 6 months or more. Its advantage is that the child does not need to verbalize or interpret anything. As you are well aware, young children have difficulty expressing themselves because they lack the verbal skills to do so. Other than looking briefly at the camera, the child’s participation is totally passive.

The testing will take place at Robina Baker Tuesday, October 29 and Wednesday, October 30. The Lion's Club requires parent's permission for the free exam - so please complete the permission form that is available on PowerSchool on Tuesday, October 22.

If this is something that your family is interested in, please have your child sign it out from the library. It will be available starting this week: October 29th.
