June 13, 2021

It was another wonderful week filled with activities at RBES! We had a fantastic virtual presentation at the beginning of the week called Tornado Hunter. On Wednesday, we celebrated and learned about Wellness with a variety of activities throughout the day. Then our students ended off the week with some amazing school spirit by dressing up for Western day! Add in all the learning and regular classroom routines and the students were all very busy. There was lots of laughter and joy everywhere and even though the week started with lots of rain, the sun finally came out to play on Friday!

We have had some amazing donations over the past few weeks. A HUGE THANK YOU goes out to a local business, Mac's @ 73 Superior Street, for a large donation of masks, sanitizer, wipes etc. The donation was over $12,000 and will be shared with other schools. Wow! We are so grateful! Also, we had a $225 donation to our playground from our Local Youth Group. THANKS SO MUCH!!! (I had a picture, but it has disappeared - oops)

Many of our students and staff had fun dressing up in our western gear on Friday. There might have been a little "horsing" around with a horse named "Apples".

We will be focusing on the theme of PERSEVERANCE for the remainder of the year in our assemblies!

CONGRATULATIONS to this week's Rad Raptors! We are so proud of all of you! Click on the image below to see all of our Rad Raptors.

Our Rad Raptor Draw Winners were so excited to win a variety of prizes! There will be one more Rad Raptor draw on the last day of school. Congratulations to you all!

We had an amazing Wellnes Day this past week. Our students started the day off with an amazing assembly with Miss Angela from our MHCB team. They enjoyed a wellness walk around the school yard where many signs were posted with activities to do, they made gratitude jars and playdough, had a watermelon snack, and watched some videos and did other activities that were sent out virtually by the Alberta Government. You can see some of the activities in the pictures below!

Each year as we finish up report cards, IPPs, and do our transition planning, we receive requests for information regarding class lists. Please read the document below to help you understand our process.

As is typical every June, we experience some staffing changes as our student numbers evolve and we get ready for the fall. Due to a student enrollment decline, RBES will be saying "Farewell" to Mr. Schnell. We are going to miss him and barely had any time to get to know him. On behalf of all of our staff and students we wish you all the best in your new assignment in Leduc as one of West Haven's Assistant Principals. As for RBES, we are currently under 300 students and as such we will not have an Assistant Principal at our school until our population grows once again. We have lost almost 100 students since the beginning of Covid.

We will also be saying "Goodbye" to a few other staff members. Ms. Flecha and Miss Pam will both be heading off to other places. Best wishes to you both in your next chapter! We will miss you!

Mrs. Sacuta will be returning from her leave and will resume her position as our RBES librarian! Welcome Back Mrs. Sacuta!!

While Mrs. Nuttall and Mrs. Stanski were away, we had Mr. Schneider and Ms. Magee filling in and they also became dear members of our RBES team. While we are thrilled to have both ladies returning in the fall, we are sad to see Mr. Schneider and Ms. Magee go. We will miss you both and hope to see you around our hallways again one day soon. All the staff and students wish you both the very best in your next steps in your teaching journeys!

Thank you to all that attended both our School Council and RBES Fundraiser AGMs. As part of our AGM, we held our annual elections for our executives. Thank you to all that have served and are stepping done and to those that have let their names stand to continue in their positions. You are all appreciated!

We are still looking for a President for our Fundraiser group. Can you or someone you know help us out?

This position involves chairing each meeting and overseeing the various projects that the group takes on. This does not mean that you have to be personally involved in every fundraiser. You just need to be aware of what is going on and volunteer when you can. Meetings are held monthly and we sometimes take a break during one or two of the busier months and it ends up being a commitment for approximately 8 meetings per year. We have an amazing and friendly group of people on our committee. We encourage you to contact the school if you are interested or email: rbesfundraising@gmail.com to reach out to the committee directly with any questions or to volunteer. We all truly work together as a collaborative team and there are a few people with lots of experience to help you through the role.

The raffle started on JUNE 1! CLICK HERE to purchase tickets!

Let's start the summer off right by sending someone into the summer break with some cash in their pocket!

This online raffle will support our Parent Fundraising Committee in paying for the Mathletics subscription and Agendas for the 21/22 school year.

Tickets are only available online with 1 for $10, 4 for $20, 20 for $50 and 100 for $100.

The class that sells the most tickets will win $100 towards a year end party of their choice (covid friendly of course).

Ticket sales end June 23rd and the winner will be drawn on June 23rd.

Last time this 50/50 raffle almost sold out! Let's do that again and show our support for our school community.

Check out Ms. Flecha's library post HERE! She included some great information regarding the Devon Public Library Summer programs. You may see her at the Devon Public Library if you attend one of her programs this summer! You can see more information on those programs below.
