We hope everyone had a restful, peaceful Christmas break. Our first week back was really great and students got right back into routine. It is too bad that ol' man winter has decided to appear with a vengeance and thus we will be having some indoor recess days. Even though we are inside on these days, if we get close to a reasonable temperature, we will head out for 10 minutes or so to get some fresh air, so please send your child with mitts, scarves, toques, ski pants and boots. Stay warm everyone!

Our staff and students were treated to an amazing performance by Dallas Arcand, World Champion Hoop Dancer. Dallas shared lots about the Indigenous Culture and treated us all to his incredible talent of hoop dancing. For some pictures from this special day please click here.

Sometimes you hear about someone who is so generous and amazing that you just have to share their story! We would like you to meet Cal Carlson. He is Mrs. Dupont's Dad! Every year for Christmas, Cal, makes a toque for every child in both Mrs. Dupont's class at RBES and her sister's class in Lethbridge. It’s his hobby! This 6’5” giant of a man sits and watches sports while knitting hundreds of toques for kids across Alberta. Nothing makes him happier than seeing a kid wearing one of his toques. He loves seeing pictures like these . . . children wearing his toques. If you ever see a toque like this around Devon you’ll know they have a connection to our school. Hundreds of hours, hundreds of toques. He is pretty amazing!

Skating Starts in January!
The Kindergarten through grade 4 students will be going skating for two weeks this year. This first week is January 20-23 and the second one occurring February 24-27. Each grade will have a half-hour time slot on the ice in which they will be participating in learn to skate activities and games which are appropriate for their ability level.

The permission form is available on PowerSchool provides permission for both weeks. If the weather requires us to change our week of skating, we will let parents know, but this permission form will cover both weeks.

This year we don't have a dedicated staff member who will be at the arena for all of the skating. This means that we need more volunteers on the ice. If you can skate, please consider coming out to help! If you can't skate, but have time, we always need help with tying skates as well. If you are able to volunteer, please email your child's teacher. Thank you in advance for your help!

The weather is supposed to get very chilly over the course of the next few weeks. Please send your children to school with the appropriate winter clothing to help protect them from the elements!

If you have a child who will be 5 by Dec. 31, 2020, you can register them for the 2020 - 2021 Kindergarten class. You can click on the picture below to take you to the Black Gold website where you can see more information. Registration for Kindergarten only will begin on January 22 at 9:00 am. Pre-K registration will be on March 25 at 9:00 am. All registrations must be done online through the BGSD website. If you have any questions, please call our office staff at 780-987-3705.
