Our Passport to Family Wellness evening was a huge success. Thank you to our MHCB (Mental Health Capacity Building) team for co-sponsoring this event with RBES. Our families learned so much and more importantly had a fun and enjoyable evening together! I would like to send out a special thank you to all the staff that helped out in organizing this event. Winter Walk Day

We will be accessing our walking field trip form and taking all of our Grade 1 - 4 students on a winter walk on Wednesday, February 5th in the afternoon. Kinders and Pre-Ks will walk outside in our school yard. If you would like to join us on our walk, please email or contact your child's classroom teacher. Volunteers are also needed to make and pass out hot chocolate. Please contact the office if you can help out with that portion of our afternoon. Thank you in advance for your help!

GIRLS FLOOR HOCKEY TRYOUTS

The Raptors Girls Floor Hockey team will be getting started this upcoming week. If your daughter is in grade 3 or 4, she is welcome to come try out for our team. The dates are all noted on the RBES calendar, however, I will also note them here. Tryouts are on Feb. 4 and 11 after school until 4:00 pm. Girls will need to be picked up at that time. Practices in the upcoming weeks will be on Tuesday and Wednesday after school until 4:00 pm. Our tournament is on March 14!

The electronics recycle bin will be arriving in the first part of February! Make sure you save them to bring to our school and help us raise some money!

Creston Maygard - Animal Research 3B

Thank you for your support! Our grade 3 students raised just over $1 200 for this awesome current events project to help the Australia Wildfire Relief Fund. Many Grade 3's are also working on research projects for Australian Animals. Check out one of them here!

REPORT CARD

If you didn't get an email with a link to your child's report card, check your spam folder. If you still can't find it, please contact the office. Throughout the year Grade 1-4 parents can always check on their PowerSchool account to see what students are working on in class and how they are doing. If you do not know how to do that yet - we have instructions on our website.

Kindergarten report cards are done in a separate program. We are piloting a new template and kinder report cards will go home some time in late February. We will let all kinder parents know closer to the date on when to expect them.

Coronavirus Infection Information

Black Gold School Division has a Pandemic Plan in place which focuses on both preventative measures and identifying flu-like illnesses. This plan was created with the guidance of Alberta Health Services and can be implemented if necessary. The plan highlights six key preventative measures which can be practiced at all times to prevent the spread of any virus. These key measures are:

1. If ill, stay home from work, school and avoid public places. Seek medical attention if symptoms progress.

2. One of the best ways to prevent influenza is to get the influenza vaccine every year.

3. Hands should be cleaned before preparing food, eating, touching one’s face and after coughing or sneezing, using the toilet and after handling soiled material.

4. Wash your hands with soap and water, or use an alcohol-based hand rub.

5. Cough or sneeze into your sleeve rather than your hand.

6. Do not touch your eyes, nose, or mouth after shaking hands or touching hard surfaces like counters and door handles or other surfaces that may contain influenza and other viruses.

For further information regarding the Coronavirus infection you can refer to the Government of Canada and Alberta Health Services websites that are listed below

Alberta's Chief Medical Officer has stated that "The risks to Albertans remains low."
