Enjoy the last couple of weeks of Rad Raptors!! Just a reminder that the numbers per class can vary as students can be nominated by other staff. In general, there will be two selected students per class, but sometimes there can be more. These celebrations are meant to be spontaneous recognition and can really vary in why students are selected, however, they are all proud when they come to see the office staff with their certificate. This past week saw the students at RBES moving and grooving during their physed classes as they learned how to dance. Special THANKS goes out to Ms. Starostecki for doing our school wide physed planning and always finding so many find ways to learn about movement! I really love the dance video that Ms. Starostecki's class put together. So fun!
Our grade ones did some cool science learning this week that they loved! They learned about living and nonliving things this week with some super worms. They were comparing gummy worms and super worms to talk about the characteristics of living things vs non-living things. The students then had to research the needs of living things so we can have the worms stay alive in our classroom. Living things need food, water, shelter and air to survive. Super worms like to live in the soil, eat fruit for both food and water and we needed to find a container that would allow air to get in!
Dear Robina families,
It is my pleasure to announce that we’re teaming up with the Devon Public Library to provide your children with free library cards should you want them. All you need to do is fill out this short form from their website by May 14 and we’ll do the rest!
You will still be able to apply for a free library card for your child past the deadline, but if you want to ensure your child gets their card at the same time as their classmates, it would be best to do so by the deadline above. When the cards are ready, I will be teaching the children how to request material just like they do with “UberBooks” at school (see here for more information on UberBooks).
Why is getting a public library card a good idea?
Having access to more varied options of reading material over the summer also helps to encourage your child to keep their reading skills sharp and fresh over the summer so that they avoid a summer slide in reading ability.
You gain access to all kinds of library materials (puppets, board games, movies, music, you name it!) without having to spend a single penny, which means you’ll save money on things you would otherwise have to buy.
Ms. Flecha

SplashLearn hosts a Springboard math competition each year for 10 weeks! 3B is entering their last week of the competition and were surprised to learn that they had earned a special Math Wizard Award for their hard work as a class!
