Performance Objectives
Administrative standards and school division goals are described in the list of duties which form part of the principal’s contract.
Additionally, the principal shall, as agreed with the Head of School, establish specific professional goals for himself/herself and with the school on an annual basis and share these with faculty.
Procedure
With the mutual agreement of the principal and representatives of the faculty, a questionnaire shall be designed to evaluate the principal’s performance. This questionnaire shall be distributed to faculty and staff for completion by 28 February.
The administrative assistant to the Head of School shall collate the results of the questionnaire and submit the report to both the principal and the Head of School by 15 March.
1. The principal and the Head of School shall discuss the report. The Head of School shall make a written statement of perceived strengths and weaknesses in the principal’s performance. This statement shall be signed by both the Head of School and the principal. The principal’s signature does not imply agreement with the statement. He/She shall have the opportunity to make additional written comments on the statement.
2. By 31 March the Head of School shall formally notify the principal in writing of the outcome of the evaluation. This shall include a recommendation for renewal of contract and possibly identify performance objectives to be carried forward.
Notification of Unsatisfactory Performance
Should the Head of School be dissatisfied with the principal’s performance, he/she shall formally notify the principal in writing by 31 March with a copy to the Board Chair. Moreover, he/she shall specify which administrative standards or goals must be actively addressed. In mid-November of the following school year the Head of School and principal shall meet to discuss the principal’s progress toward achieving his/her goals.
By 30 November the Head of School shall notify the principal in writing whether or not his/her performance is satisfactory. If it is not, the Head of School may decide to terminate and shall inform the principal of the reasons for which his/her contract shall be terminated at the end of the current school year.
