1. Students who have attended FIS the previous year, dependents of FIS employees hired from abroad (see policy 3.30212 on tuition for student dependents of employees), and Partnership Program applicants who apply before 01 April for the first semester or 01 October for the second semester shall automatically be admitted if their school records are satisfactory and upon successful completion of the reenrolment/enrolment process.
2. For the purpose of new admissions, international applicants are defined as children of expatriates transferred to the Frankfurt area and children of FIS employees who are hired from abroad.
2.1 The following are the conditions and steps under which enrollment applications are considered and assessed:
2.1.1 A complete "student application" along with all requested documentation must be submitted to the director of admissions.
2.1.2 Applicants are considered for admission on a continuous basis throughout the year.
2.1.3 Applications are generally not accepted before 1 January for admission to the coming school year. First semester candidates should submit their application by 01 April although applications may also be submitted after this date. A decision regarding acceptance will be made on the basis of the quality of the student's records, space availability and, when applicable, a personal interview.
2.1.4 Students with special needs will be assessed on the basis of the school’s ability to support them and a complete disclosure of all pertinent documents relevant to the admissions process.
2.1.5 Students who are in need of ELA (English as a Second Language) instruction will be assessed in relation to available support, the grade level placement under consideration, and the prospect of success in the core program.
2.1.6 The school determines the placement of successful applicants into grade levels, programs, and courses, taking into consideration all relevant aspects of the applicant’s prior schooling, the prospect of success at the designated and successive grade levels, and the requirements of courses and school completion diplomas. Admission is contingent upon the parent or guardian agreeing with the recommended program placement.
2.1.7 The school will render a final admissions decision after completion of the following steps:
– receipt of all pertinent documents;
– a review by appropriate faculty of ELA applicants and/or applicants with special needs;
– a personal interview where deemed necessary and essential;
– confirmation of parent supervision or guardianship;
– confirmation of arrangements for the payment of school fees.
2.2 Whenever class size or other enrollment policies limit the acceptance of qualified applicants, admissions will be made on a priority basis, using the four categories below. In each category, priority will be given to applicants with siblings currently accepted into FIS, students returning to FIS, and children of FIS alumni. Each category will then prioritize students by application date.
2.2.0 Category P: applicants from companies that have achieved Partner Status through a contract with the school
2.2.1 Category 1: international applicants with a limited ability to adapt to local educational alternatives
2.2.2 Category 2: local applicants with an extensive history of international education which thereby limits their ability to adapt to local educational alternatives
2.2.3 Category 3: all other applicants
2.3 Final responsibility for the granting of admission decisions rests with the Head of School. Each academic year the Head of School may choose to admit students outside of the normal priority system noted above (2.2), who exhibit exceptional talents in a discipline such as academics, athletics or the arts, that will enhance the overall student body at FIS.
