The Board delegates to the Head of School, in consultation with the Board, the responsibility to negotiate contracts on behalf of the school with duly certified collective bargaining agents.
For the negotiation of non-administrative employee salaries, fringe benefits, and general working conditions, the Board recognizes a Tariff Commission which consists of faculty and teacher assistant representatives of the Gewerkschaft Erziehung und Wissenschaft (GEW trade union of education and science) elected by the faculty and teacher assistant union members, and a separate Tariff Commission consisting of members of Verdi (staff trade union) for staff negotiations.
The GEW and Verdi trade unions, acting on the employees’ behalf through the Tariff Commission, negotiate as and when necessary with the Unternehmerverband Frankfurt (association of employers from Frankfurt and the Rhein-Main region), which acts on behalf of the School.
As the school’s chief executive officer, the Head of School is responsible for recommending parameters to the Board in advance as a basis for negotiation by the Unternehmerverband Frankfurt. The Board shall approve the final settlement before the Head of School signs settlement terms with GEW.
It is the intention of the Head of School to meet with the Tariff Commission early in each school year to agree on meeting times and procedures. Normally salaries are negotiated for periods of either one or two years. Fringe benefit agreements for faculty and staff are negotiated according to mutual agreement.
