Given the number of demands placed on the school’s limited facilities, a classification system is needed to prioritize space in case of scheduling conflicts. When there is a scheduling conflict between groups with the same classification, the group serving the greatest number of FIS students will be given priority. When similar size groups within a category are competing for space, the group with the earlier facility request date will be given priority. The school administration reserves the right to make exceptions to these classification priorities when extenuating circumstances exist. All school-related events must seek approval from the calendar committee. All outside groups (Cat. 5) shall contact the Old Main help desk first.
All activities shall be broadly classified into five groups:
1. School-sponsored Activities
These activities are directly under the control of the FIS administration and normally include direct financial support and paid advisory/supervisory personnel. School sponsored activities include all types of REAL activities of the Frankfurter Gesellschaft für Förderung von Bildung und Erziehung. This category may include activities supporting the academic program and requested by the school administration.
2. School Organizations
In this classification are included organizations formally recognized by the Board of Trustees, which channel their fund-raising activities into programs and projects that directly benefit FIS, (eg. PTG, ABC, SPA). These groups receive no direct financial support but receive significant input / assistance from administrators and faculty.
3. Not-for-Profit Groups Supporting the FIS Community
Included here are not-for-profit groups and activities that offer FIS community members a choice of activities, but require no FIS financial or advisory/supervisory support. Participants in these activities must be primarily FIS students and family members.
4. For-Profit Groups Supporting the FIS Community
For-profit activities by individuals or small groups fall into this category, which is further divided into two sections:
a) Faculty member, student or other instructor providing support for the academic or co-curricular program.
b) All other types of instruction for payment.
In either case, the primary function of these private tuition activities shall be to serve the FIS student body or membership, and not outside parties.
5. Outside Groups
Any group wishing to rent FIS facilities for its own activities which do not involve primarily FIS participants shall be classified as an "Outside Group." Activities should reflect the secular nature of the school, be completely independent of FIS, and not supported other than to provide facilities in exchange for payment of rent or other rebates, discounts, or service systems that benefit the FIS students or the membership. Such groups may not use the FIS name in connection with their activities.
