For the purposes of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD), “Device” means any privately owned wireless and/or portable electronic equipment that includes, but is not limited to: laptops, notebooks, netbooks, tablets/slates, iPod Touches, e-Readers, cell and smart phones, and wireless gaming devices.
1. Frankfurt International School (FIS) retains the right to protect its network and all associated technical resources.
2. Any user who brings their own personal device on campus is required to adhere to the terms and conditions of the Board policies governing technology use and to our Responsible Use Agreement (RUA). Student users must return a signed copy of the RUA to school administrative offices; other users must be authenticated to our Guest wifi network and thereby accept the conditions of the Frankfurt International School RUA.
3. The user takes full responsibility for their device and keeps it in their possession or secured in their locker at all times. The school is not responsible for the security of the device.
4. The user is responsible for the safe and proper care of their personal device, including any costs of repair, replacement or any modifications needed to use the device at school.
5. The school reserves the right to inspect a device that is in a student’s possession if there is reason to believe that the student has violated the school's RUA, Board policies, administrative procedures, FIS school Code of Conduct or has engaged in other misconduct while using their personal device on campus.
6. Violations of any Board policies, administrative procedures or school rules involving a personally owned device may result in the confiscation of the device in school and/or disciplinary action.
7. The student may not use the device to record, transmit or post photos, audio, or video of a person or persons on campus without specific consent from the person or persons portrayed (in accordance with § 22 Kunsturheberrechtsgesetz (German art copyright law).
8. During normal class time the student may only use their device to access and/or perform classroom related activities.
9. FIS employs filtering software and other technologies to protect our school community. Attempts to circumvent the content filters are strictly prohibited and will be considered a violation of this policy. FIS also retains the right to monitor the online activities of all users in an effort to protect the safety and privacy of our school community.
