This regulation provides guidelines for FIS families leaving the school for a year or more, who wish to ensure a guaranteed readmission for their child(ren) on their return.
1. A family currently enrolled at FIS may apply to the Head of School for a student’s one-year leave of absence. If this request is approved, the admissions office will hold a space until the students return, assuming the conditions (see item 2) of the approved leave are adhered to and an Absentee Fee is paid.
2. A student on leave must maintain good academic and behavioral standing during his or her time away from FIS. Although the student’s future space has been reserved, the family must complete a new application and provide the same academic records, teacher referrals and other records required of all incoming students.
3. The returning family must submit application documents and confirm a student’s return no later than 01 April before a new school year begins.
4. If a family requires leave beyond one full academic year, a guarantee of a space can be secured by paying the normal tuition and fees, even though the student is not enrolled. This extended leave must also be approved by the Head of School and requires the same conditions and notifications for return as are associated with a one-year leave of absence.
5. Under exceptional circumstances, such as a medical or family emergency, the Head of School may waive the Absentee Fee.
6. Any family departing the school without previously obtaining an approved leave of absence must apply through the normal application process and will not be granted a guarantee of a student’s acceptance.
