Substitutes are interviewed and recommended for substitute work by the principals. A list of approved substitutes shall be available in the personnel office, and all substitutes shall arrange for the necessary paperwork including the required background check through the personnel office before starting work. All payments shall be made through the regular channels of the personnel office. Substitute teachers shall be paid at a daily rate for each day worked. The rate will be set annually by the Head of School. Substitute teachers who work for a period in excess of ten successive school days, and who take on the planning responsibilities for the position they are filling, will be paid at an adjusted rate for long-term substitutes.
In filling these temporary vacancies, an effort shall be made to secure substitutes who have full certification, and who at least have training or experience at the teaching level or in the subject specialization of the faculty member who is absent. Every reasonable effort will be made to engage fully certificated substitutes for assignments to classes whose regular teachers are on long-term leaves of absence.
A substitute working more than six successive weeks in one position shall normally be offered a termed contract.
