Title: Student Assessment
Effective date: November 2017

Supersedes: 7.905
Dated: May 2013
The main purpose of assessment is to provide formative and summative information to students, teachers, administrators, parents, and outside agencies on student progress and goals. Additionally, assessment guides course and curriculum development.
Grading is criterion-referenced on a scale of 7-1 in the Upper School 8-12 and BIPA in the Upper School 6-8 and at the Elementary and Primary levels is based on four levels of achievement for a Grade level set of achievement objectives, in the context of standards embedded in the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, 6-10 pre-IB Diploma curriculum, and International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
Student attitudes and behavior are evaluated separately. Students are encouraged to play an active role in evaluating their work.
Modifications in assessments may be made for defined exceptional reasons. Reports of achievement are sent to parents at established intervals. Teachers and parents are encouraged to schedule individual conferences as deemed necessary, in addition to the scheduled parent-teacher conferences.
