The school is committed to the protection of the environment along with the health and safety of all members of the community. It recognizes that environmental protection, including preserving natural resources, reducing emissions and waste, and improving environmental management, are among the most important issues facing the world today.
The school shall minimize the generation of hazardous emissions and discharges, reduce hazardous and non-hazardous waste generation, including carbon emissions. Moreover, it shall work to conserve energy and natural resources, and will encourage the purchase of necessary products and services from sustainable or local sources.
The school shall consider incorporating appropriate sustainability measures into future school construction or renovation projects, such as use of renewable energy, energy conservation and water conservation options.
The school shall integrate environmental, health and safety considerations into the curriculum and the day-to-day operation of the school, thereby instilling a commitment to health, safety and environmental protection throughout the school.
The school shall respond diligently to environmental emergencies for which it is responsible, and coordinate efforts with the local authorities. Any environmental problems/concerns or proposals for improvements shall be first directed to the Sustainability Council, and then where needed to the Buildings and Grounds Committee.
Financial implications and proposals which require increased financial commitment will be included as a component of the budgeting process for Board consideration.
