Title: Learning Support Services
Effective date: May 2019

The school will offer support services for enrolled students who require them. Learning Support services support students' individual progression and success at FIS. If students are unable to meet grade level expectations with available resources and accommodations, they may have a personalized or modified curriculum.
The school will use a variety of plans for student support services including learning, intervention, behavior, and accommodation plans managed by designated individuals within the various divisions of FIS. Responsibility for student support services is shared by administrators; student support services coordinators; learning support teachers; student learning coaches; counselors; homeroom and specialist teachers; parents; and students themselves are encouraged to take on the greatest level of autonomy in learning.
Enrollment and referral procedures will be used to identify and refer students for academic, behavioral, speech and language, and occupational therapy concerns. Continuing enrolment is dependent on the school being able to meet student needs and may require additional support services recommended by school-based teams. When the school is not able to meet a student's needs, or if the safety of the student, other students, or community members is compromised, enrolment may be terminated, in which case the school will support the family to find appropriate alternatives. Final decisions rest with the Head of School.
For students enrolled in DP courses, the IBDP Coordinator, Learning Support Curriculum Area Leader and Counselor will ensure that applications are made to the IB Office of Inclusive Access in advance of the IB deadline for services. Files will be updated as new material becomes available.
The Administration will develop, maintain and implement a handbook describing the school’s learning support services. This handbook includes the rights and responsibilities of stakeholders as they relate to inclusion and student support services, enrollment and referral procedures, and descriptions of service delivery models used. This information will be accessible to educators as an internal site.
