I. Identifying A Crisis
A crisis can be characterized as any unexpected threat or incident that creates chaos or trauma and requires immediate action. In the event of a crisis situation, Frankfurt International School must respond in a timely and effective manner so as to ensure safety, provide personal and emotional support to individuals, and communicate appropriate messages to staff, parents, students, the community, and the media.
Definition – crisis can be defined under 4 broad categories:
1. Bereavement (death including suicide/murder of student/staff member which impacts on a significant segment of the school population)
2. Major environmental crisis (fire, snow, utility failure)
3. Threats to physical safety of students/staff (bus or car accident, bomb threat, gun fire, rape, kidnapping, hostages, student missing, infectious diseases)
4. Other significant events of community concern
