II Crisis Team
The Frankfurt International School responds to major crisis through the use of a team structure.
Roles of Crisis Team Members
Crisis Team Chair
The chair will call and chair all meetings for the crisis team, oversee the specific functions of the team and the role of its members.
Assistant Chair
Assists the chair in carrying out the specific functions of the team. This person will also carry out the responsibilities of the chair in case that person is absent. Reviews incoming information, gives tasks to team members and coordinates outgoing information.
Counseling Services Coordinator
This person is responsible for determining the extent and nature of support services necessary as indicated by a particular crisis. This person will be responsible for mobilizing support services and for providing and supervising services offered to students, faculty/staff and/or parents at a time of crisis.
Included in this role will be the determination of how, when, and where services will be provided. The role also includes continued updating of community resources list and communication with local resources which will assist in time of crisis. Support rooms need to be set up with counseling staff available in crisis situations. Awareness of cultural differences is important by all members of the counseling services. Notify families of injured students/teachers.
Police Liaison
Facilitates the flow of information to responding police and security personnel. Provides campus specific information and if necessary guides police through campus.
Medical Services Coordinator
Responsible for identifying locations throughout the campus that will be used to move, perform triage, and subsequently treat injured victims prior to the arrival of local medical personnel.
Communication Coordinator (HoS Admin Assistants and ICT Director)
Responsible for notifying principals during or after school hours when informed by the Chair or Assistant Chair. Coordinates with the ICT Director or his nominated deputy to execute the SMS, website and email advice to all parents, and to faculty and staff. The principals will be responsible for initiating the telephone trees, and the individual divisions will be responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date telephone trees and phone lists.
Media Coordinator
This individual will be responsible for handling all inquiries from the media. ALL members of the school should be advised that any and all contact with the media must be by the Media Coordinator. Prepares a brief press release, in coordination with the chair and crisis team, and appropriate statements for faculty/staff, student, and parent notifications. The Crisis Team Chair will assure that the statement is consistent with the wishes of the victim and/or family members and respects the rights of the victim and/or family to confidentiality. Statements need to be continually updated.
Reception
Responsible for handling all direct incoming communications. Reads statement prepared by the Media Coordinator to parents calling for information. Screens all incoming telephone calls and maintain a log of phone calls related to the crisis. Directs all calls from the media to the Media Coordinator. Assists the Communication Coordinator in his/her role by maintaining an accurate phone listing of community resources.
Crowd Manager
Responsible for planning mechanisms for managing crowds and movement of people in the event of potential crisis, and directly supervises the movement of students and faculty/staff in the event such plans are initiated. Prepares maps to safe houses and highlight routes, makes prior arrangements with nearby safe houses in the event that evacuation of our school becomes necessary, as well as work with local police and fire departments in establishing the crowd control plan, and reviews the fire and campus evacuation plans to make sure they are current and appropriate for all emergency evacuations.
Transportation Coordinator
Serves as spokesperson to bus companies when there is a change in bus plans or a bus accident. Responsible for plotting bus routes on map and including this information in the Crisis Management Folders.
