Response Level II
Condition: Bad weather developing earlier in the day (or developing suddenly and severely); road conditions in some regions are unsafe; some buses are delayed and/or some bus routes are cancelled.
Action:
1. After-school activities cancelled.
2. AFN, HR3 and FFH asked to report that some bus routes are cancelled (route numbers can be given if the station is willing) and that affected students will be held at school until parents are able to arrive or call with alternate arrangements. Parents informed via SMS, email and website.
3. Students directed to go to homerooms at the end of school with coats and bags, ready for departure; teachers stay with their students
4. Extra help assigned to telephones for receiving calls and passing messages between offices;
5. Supervisors with radios (at FIS) assigned to bus area, Old Main, elementary commons (or alternate communications area)
6. Walkers and U-Bahn riders dismissed first
7. Parents who are at school can collect children from homeroom or have one of the phone handlers call the homeroom to have child come down
8. Bus groups dismissed over PA by bus number as the bus is ready and the proposed route is deemed safe by the Transportation Director and the Crisis Team Chair
9. Alternate plans (e.g. going home with a friend or taking the U-Bahn) intiated by parents or by students in Grades 10-12 proceed; alternate plans for students in lower grades need parent consultation and approval
10. As numbers remaining in homerooms decline, groups can be combined in divisional holding areas so that some faculty can be released.
11. Situation assessed at 17:00 and decision made to activate feeding and entertainment plan for remaining students.
12. Situation assessed at 20:00 and decision made to activate overnight plan for remaining students
13. At any point the Crisis Team Chair can decide to upgrade the response level to Level III.
