I first became aware of this series while listening to a YouTube BookTuber reviewing the first book, The Rage of Dragons. Many listeners had advised him to read this book as it was supposed to be phenomenal, at first he had thought this was just hype surrounding the book, especially as it was the first book by a new author.
After reading it he changed his mind and gave it a glowing review and he was so enthusiastic about it that I just had to look it up on the Kindle site.
I was immediately drawn by the book cover, which was very distinctive, plus the synopsis was equally as intriguing, not to mention Dragons were included, so I bought it.
This is based on African-style cultures, so it is quite a bit different from the usual Western Fantasy I was used to, but it was a totally riveting read and certainly lived up to all the comments I had heard or read.
This inspired me to start reading fantasy based on other cultures, leading me to find some excellent books I would never have considered reading previously.
The Fires of Vengeance, in my opinion, is not quite as good as The Rage of Dragons, though it is a solid second book which builds on the previous book and sets up, what will hopefully be a stunning conclusion in the third book.
IN A WORLD CONSUMED BY ENDLESS WAR ONE YOUNG MAN WILL BECOME HIS PEOPLE'S ONLY HOPE FOR SURVIVAL.
The Omehi people have been fighting an unwinnable war for generations. The lucky ones are born gifted: some have the power to call down dragons, others can be magically transformed into bigger, stronger, faster-killing machines.
Everyone else is fodder, destined to fight and die in the endless war. Tau Tafari wants more than this, but his plans of escape are destroyed when those closest to him are brutally murdered.
With too few gifted left, the Omehi are facing genocide, but Tau cares only for revenge. Following an unthinkable path, he will strive to become the greatest swordsman to ever live, willing to die a hundred thousand times for the chance to kill three of his own people.
