I had been aware of the Dresden books for several years but had never been interested enough to look into just what type of stories they were, that changed however, when I reached the end of Furies of Calderon, also by Jim Butcher, which had the first chapter or two of Storm Front included as a sample of the Dresden files.
I found the writing style refreshing and easy to read, and I was taken completely by surprise at just how enjoyable and entertaining it was. Therefore when Storm Front became available as part of a Kindle Monthly deal I snapped it up. When I came to read it I zipped through the book in a couple of days, something I hadn't done for some time.
The character of Harry Dresden, as a wise-cracking Wizard, is very engaging and made more so once you realise that even though he is a Wizard and can do magic, he has his limits and is not all-powerful, so his human frailties get in the way at times, which when you are contending with supernatural beings as well as humans, can be a problem.
There is a lot of dry, dark, sardonic wit and humour throughout the books which just adds to the overall enjoyment, but also helps to lighten what could otherwise be very dark tales.
These are fast-paced, high-octane, tension-filled adventures, that see Harry trying to solve various problems that can have both a supernatural or mundane aspect to them, making for enthralling page-turners from start to finish.
Meet Harry Dresden, Chicago's first (and only) Wizard P.I.
Turns out the 'everyday' world is full of strange and magical things - and most of them don't play well with humans. That's where Harry comes in.
Harry's business as a private investigator has been quiet lately - so when the police bring him in to consult on a grisly double murder committed with black magic, he's seeing dollar signs. But where there's black magic, there's a black mage behind it. And now that mage knows Harry's name.
Magic - it can get a guy killed.

2020Meet Harry Dresden, Chicago's first (and only) Wizard P.I. Turns out the 'everyday' world is full of strange and magical things - and most of them don't play well with humans. That's where Harry comes in.
Business has been slow lately for Harry Dresden. Okay, business has been dead. Not undead - just dead. You would think Chicago would have a little more action for the only professional wizard in the phone book. But lately, Harry hasn't been able to dredge up any kind of work - magical or mundane. But just when it looks like he can't afford his next meal, a murder comes along that requires his particular brand of supernatural expertise. A brutally mutilated corpse. Strange-looking paw prints. A full moon. Take three guesses. And the first two don't count . . .
Magic - it can get a guy killed.
