Set one hundred and thirty years after the events of "Wrath", in a Banished lands which is fundamentally different from those of the Faithful and the Fallen, and with an almost totally new set of characters, though there are a few from the original series who pop up, mostly Giants but also at least one surprise, this trilogy has a different feel while still retaining good characterization and an engaging plot.
There is a definite feeling of mystery and menace running through the plot of the first book that pulls together quite breathtakingly in the final chapters, while the second has a palatable tension surrounding the various plot threads that follow the different characters, all of which make for compulsive reading in this fast-paced, action-packed, nail-biting adventure.
The third book is just a master class in how to write a gripping story, full of action, humour, friendship, bloodshed, grief and heartache that just leaves you emotionally drained by the time you read the last word and close the book.
Set in the same world as the Faithful and the Fallen quartet, the first novel in John Gwynne's Of Blood and Bone series, A Time of Dread, takes place one hundred years after the end of Wrath.
The Ben-Elim, a race of warrior angels, once vanquished a mighty demon horde. Now they rule the Banished lands. But their dominion is brutally enforced and their ancient enemy may not be as crushed as they thought.
In the snowbound north, Drem, a trapper, finds mutilated corpses in the forests – a sign of demonic black magic. In the south, Riv, a young, tempestuous soldier, discovers a deadly rift within the Ben-Elim themselves.
Two individuals with two world-changing secrets. But where will they lead? And what role will Drem and Riv play in the Banished Land's fate? Difficult choices need to be made. Because in the shadows, demons are gathering, waiting for their time to rise. . .
