I had not heard of this series until I joined A Fantasy Book Club on Facebook, and then there seemed to be several posts a week about how good the books were, but also an equal number of posts decrying the fact that book three was taking too long to come out. There were also quite a number of posts by individuals saying the previous books were not worth reading as the final book was never going to be published. The last point to me doesn't make any sense, if you are not going to read a book until you know all the books in the series are published, you will miss out on some fantastic stories, which include these books listed here.
The vast majority of the books I read, I buy from the Kindle monthly deals, so when 'The Name of the Wind' was included I purchased it, but before I got around to reading it, which was just over a year later, 'The Wise Man's Fear' came up in the monthly deals, so I snapped that up too. When I started reading the book one just a few days later, I instantly found it to be a riveting read, with truly wonderful characters bursting with personalities, and events that pull just about every emotional string you can think of. Book two was equally as enjoyable as the first, and though book three is still not published, I in no way regret reading these books, which have both been five-star reads and enthralling from cover to cover.
Reading is a journey, not just a destination, so if you want to read something that is engaging, enjoyable and just a delight to read, then treat yourself to these books. If book three is published at some stage in the future, then that is a bonus.
'I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. I burned down the town of Trebon. I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life. I was expelled from the University at a younger age than most people are allowed in. I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during the day. I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make the minstrels weep.
My name is Kvothe.
You may have heard of me'
So begins the tale of Kvothe - currently known as Kote, the unassuming innkeeper - from his childhood in a troupe of travelling players, through his years spent as a near-feral orphan in a crime-riddled city, to his daringly brazen yet successful bid to enter a difficult and dangerous school of magic. In these pages, you will come to know Kvothe the notorious magician, the accomplished thief, the masterful musician, the dragon-slayer, the legend-hunter, the lover, the thief and the infamous assassin.
