How to use bid
Use bid with a motion of hands or fingers to indicate something size: Ibic bid ori. This is so big. Ibic bid kih. This is about this small.
Use bid to mean "very" but not as in "a bigger version of." For example, bid kandosii would mean "that's amazing, but not more than that." The use of bid in this way can indicate that the speaker is being a sarcastic (or self-deprecating, depending on context), because bid is not necessary to get the essential meaning of the statement across. To indicate that something is a bigger or greater version, use ori. This use of bid is based on fan usage and may not be accepted in all dialects.
Use for comparisons of equality. The following is fan speculation based the dictionary entry for bid ... ibac and research into how English uses "so" in comparisons. Your preferred dialect might have different grammar rules.
Mando'a can use bid in a special way to compare two nouns that have similar qualities. Because using "so" is less common than "as" in English when making comparisons of equality, translating bid as "as" when bid is used in this way will make it more understandable to a greater number of people.

bid [descriptor] [pronoun]. Meaning: "as [adjective] as [pronoun]." Pronouns include ni (I), gar (you), mhi (we), kaysh (they, sing.), val (they, pl.), ibic (this), ibac (that). Example: Ibic bid briikase ibac. (This is as happy as that.)
bid [descriptor] ibic [noun]. Meaning: "as [adjective] as this [noun]." Example: Ner striil bid briikase ibic striil. (My strill is as happy as this strill.)
bid [descriptor] ibac [noun]. Meaning: "as [adjective] as that [noun]." Example: Gar striil bid briikase ibic striil. (Your strill is as happy as that strill.)
bid [descriptor] sa [noun]. Meaning: "as [adjective] as [noun]." Example: Verde laarari bid briikase sa senaare. (The warriors sing as happily as birds.)
To make a negative comparison of equality, use one of the methods above along with an appropriate negative word before the verb. Examples:
Ibic cu cuyi bid briikase ibac. (This is not so happy as that.)
Ner striil draar cuyi bid briikase ibic striil. (My strill is never as happy as this strill.)
Gar striil dar cuyi bid briikase ibic striil. (Your strill is no longer as happy as that strill.)
