The process to create new words for the MandoCreator wordlist involves a team of four or people with differing skillsets and backgrounds. They create new words for that expansion using a variety of resources, including combining roots (with and without sound changes), analyzing various Earth languages that inspired the original Mando'a words, and pulling from a generator programmed with sound combinations seen in the original Mando'a wordlist.
This page offers a look at a handful of the new words that we've received questions about. For a look at some of the possible Earth inspirations that the original author used, see Earth inspiration.
dan - this one was picked from the set of unassigned three-letter roots that fit with Mando'a phonetics. Among the contenders, this was the compromise because it somewhat resembles droten. Part of a set, not all of which are in the online app yet.
rish’ak/ricya - rish'ak is rish (feline) + rak (new root used to create "predator" words); ricya is rish (feline) + cya (beloved/companion). Both rish and rak were based on a word submitted by a fan and that we heavily modified.
letyc - part of a set of words based on the newly created word "let," which means "oil." Only this one in the set had enough votes to get into the app during one of the periodic updates.
vokat - heavily modified from broka + bat.
upan - modified from a word pulled from a generator created by the programmer of the MandoCreator site. One of our first tests to see how well fresh roots would be received by users. Casual fans didn't care (they'll take anything handed to them), though we did have a few people come into the server just to hate on how it's not from recognizable roots. We went through probably a dozen different options before settling on this and deciding it somehow relates to "palon." I just recently found out that Proto-Germanic upanōną means “to open," which words well with some of the other potential Earth inspirations that I've found for words.
braar - another one pulled from the word generator. We decided to have it relate to "bral."
time units - Many of the units of time are modified forms from the original "MLD" document that Tal'jair used as the basis for Tal'jair's expansions. We cross-referenced what's in RU to be somewhat reminiscent of what is most commonly out there. We also created new words based on those words to make the progression have some kind of logic.
