disoriented

Materials: acrylic paint on canvas

Artist Statement: Throughout my life I have struggled with feeling disoriented or feeling tired without knowing why. I wanted to dedicate this piece to me and other people who may have felt like this. I wanted to properly represent the feeling of being disoriented through colors instead of facial features. because I know when one is disoriented they don't look like it, they just feel it. To me feeling disoriented it is being cold from Two Worlds. By using brushstrokes pulling towards each side of the piece, I made it feel like the face was almost being torn apart which is how I feel when I'm in a disoriented state.

I originally wanted to use stamps and layer them on top of each other, but I felt that didn't properly represent the feeling of being disoriented. So I made a quick sketch of Eyes, Nose, Lips and then focused on the colors and how I wanted them to flow together.

I think it's really important to bring awareness to being disoriented, because some people think it's not that big of a deal. I find when I'm disoriented I struggle learning, communicating and overall just getting out of bed. So by bringing awareness to this feeling I could bring awareness to myself and others struggling with this feeling.
