sustained investigation #11

the male gaze

materials: acrylic paint and canvas

artist statement:

This piece was made for an art contest representing radical bodies. I wanted to come from an idealized part of the society and represent how that affects women and our body. There are many aspects that come from the surrounding society, the “miracle of childbirth”, and the more common idealized body type, skinny and curvy.

But there are many different parts of the painting. I chose to use dark and powerful colors to represent anger behind the piece, I also wanted to show fluid sporadic movements.
