artist statement:
When making this piece I was thinking about mental disorders. Specifically DID Dissociative identity disorder. I wanted to bring light to something that is not often talked about in everyday life.
Though I don't have DID, I can understand how hard it must be. As people from the outside, we don't see what they go through. I did some research on DID, and I decided to dedicate this piece to DID and hopefully bring some education to the people viewing this piece.
The process of this was, first casting my hands in alginate and pouring in plaster of Paris. Then the hard part was to figure out what I wanted to do, but by doing some research I found that I wanted to do a piece inspired b DID. So I cast the faces out of polymer clay and I colored and glued the copper leaf to the hands.
