sustained investigation #4

curiosity

materials: oil pastels and canvas

artist statement: For this particular piece I tackled a couple different ideas of what I wanted to do. I started with the idea of 3D polymer clay sculpture, then adding polymer clay to a 2d canvas painting, and then finally settled with a simple oil pastel canvas drawing. I want to incorporate a challenge and to have a certain amount of curiosity when creating this piece, so I made it with full red lights in my room. I was unaware of the colors that I was putting on my canvas. After drawing up the rough shape of the piece I went in afterwards, I turned on the lights and corrected some of my mistakes.

After turning on the red lights I focused on dark colors and light colors, creating composition within the art piece of dark and lights. I had no idea what colors I was using and putting down on the paper except for black and white. the hardest part about it but I would put down and color and then forget which color I was using since they all look similar.

I wanted to focus on feeling an idea of curiosity, how can I represent it? I wanted to create a form with dark eyes and little to no details to leave room to the viewer to investigate until you use their own curiosity while evaluating the piece.
